Aave V3 guide

How to get an alert when your Aave health factor drops

By the Tokenping teamPublished Updated 15 min read

Short answer

Aave's own interfaces show your health factor while you have them open, but they don't message you when it falls, so the warning has to come from a separate tool. With Tokenping you connect the wallet you borrow with, pay for alert access on Arbitrum, sign in by signing a message with that wallet, set a threshold for each market you borrow on (each Aave V3 market on 21 networks, or each Aave V4 Spoke on Ethereum, Avalanche, Arc and Base) and add an email address, a Signal username or a Telegram username. Tokenping then checks every 5 minutes and messages you on every check while your health factor is below that threshold.

Applies to Aave V3.7, checked on the Ethereum Core, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche and Gnosis markets. Other V3 markets and networks may run older versions. Aave V4 differences are noted where rules differ. Figures as of .

Does Aave send health factor alerts?

No. As of 14 October 2026, Aave's own interfaces show your health factor on screen but send no email, chat message or push notification when it falls. The health factor (HF) is the value of your collateral, weighted by each asset's liquidation threshold, divided by the value of your debt; below 1.00, the position can be liquidated. The full formula is in what the Aave health factor is.

Aave's web app (app.aave.com) once linked to HAL notifications; Aave removed that integration on 30 May 2024 because the HAL service had shut down. Aave Pro, the Aave V4 app, describes health factor monitoring inside the app, and its product page mentions no notifications. Aave's help centre says regular monitoring is essential; its short tool list, labelled "Use at your own risk", has a simulator and an auto-repay service but no alert service.

So staying warned means checking the app yourself or using a third-party tool. This guide sets up Aave health factor alerts on Signal, Telegram and email with Tokenping; other tools are covered in Aave liquidation alert tools compared.

What do you need before you start?

A Tokenping health factor alert needs four things:

  • An Aave V3 or V4 position with debt. On Aave V3: any of the 24 markets on 21 networks, from Ethereum's Core, Prime, EtherFi and Horizon markets to Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Avalanche, Gnosis, Metis, BNB Chain, Scroll, ZKsync, Linea, Sonic, Celo, Soneium, Plasma, Ink, MegaETH, Mantle, X Layer and Monad (Aave Address Book, 16 Oct 2026). On Aave V4: any Spoke on Ethereum, Avalanche, Arc or Base (20 as of 16 Oct 2026). With no debt, Aave returns the largest possible value (shown as ∞) and no alert can fire. Not covered: Aave V3 on Harmony, frozen since 2022.
  • The wallet you borrow with. Tokenping watches only the wallet you connect; you can't add another address. The same wallet signs you in, so there is no account and no password.
  • Native USDC and a little ETH on Arbitrum One, in that same wallet. Alerts cost 3 USDC per 30 days, paid in Circle's native USDC on Arbitrum One even when your loan is on another network. The ETH covers gas for up to two transactions; signing in costs no gas.
  • An email address, a Signal username or a Telegram username, or more than one of them.

Setup then takes seven steps:

  1. Connect the wallet and check your positions.
  2. Pay for alert access on Arbitrum One.
  3. Sign in with the wallet.
  4. Create an alert and choose email, Signal, Telegram or several.
  5. Choose a threshold.
  6. Save the alert.
  7. Send a test message on each channel.

Step 1: Connect your wallet and check your positions

Open the dashboard to check your Aave V3 health factor and connect the wallet you borrow with. Viewing positions needs no payment and no sign-in: Tokenping only reads your positions on-chain and never asks for an approval or a transaction on your Aave position.

The Markets list shows the Aave V3 markets and Aave V4 Spokes where the wallet has a position or a saved alert, with a health factor badge where you have a position; every other market is folded under Other markets. Select the one with your loan to see its collateral, debt and health factor, and note that health factor: it helps you pick a threshold. If the dashboard says "No active Aave positions detected in supported markets", you have probably connected a different wallet, or the loan sits in a market Tokenping doesn't read. Positions load when the page opens and when you press Refresh positions.

Step 2: Unlock alerts

Saving a Tokenping alert needs paid access, which costs 3 USDC per 30 days. The price is set in Tokenping's payment contract on Arbitrum One, and the panel shows it before you pay.

  1. Under the Markets list in the Tokenping dashboard, the Unlock health factor alerts panel lists the price, how long access lasts, the network and the network fee. Press Pay (its label includes the price in USDC). If your wallet is on another network, press Switch to Arbitrum One first.
  2. Approve the USDC. The approval is for exactly the price, never an unlimited amount, and it is skipped if enough is already approved.
  3. Confirm the payment. Once it is mined, the panel shows Alerts unlocked until followed by a date.

One payment unlocks alert settings in every Aave V3 market and Aave V4 Spoke for the wallet that paid. Nothing renews automatically, but you can pay ahead: while access is active, the panel shows a button that adds one more plan period (its label names the days and the price). Each payment adds that period after your current end date, as many times as you like, and the new end date shows at once. Once access has ended, paying again starts a new plan period from that day. The payment contract is verified on Sourcify and has no refund function. One wallet controlled by the Tokenping team owns it and can change the price, pause payments or upgrade the contract's code.

Step 3: Sign in with your wallet

Alert settings belong to a wallet address, not to an account. Once access is unlocked, the alert panel for the selected market asks you to Sign in with wallet. Your wallet then shows a sign-in message (Sign-in with Ethereum) that names the site and your address and says "Sign in to Tokenping to see and edit your health factor alerts." Signing it is not a transaction: it costs no gas and approves no token. There is no password to create and no email sign-up.

The sign-in lasts 7 days on that browser and ends when you disconnect the wallet; after that, the panel asks you to sign in again. If you decline the request, the panel says so and you can press the button again. What the sign-in stores and checks is in how sign-in works without an account.

Step 4: Create an alert and choose your channels

Each Tokenping alert covers one market and one threshold. A market is an Aave V3 Pool (Ethereum has four, every other network one) or an Aave V4 Spoke, because each one keeps a separate position with its own health factor. With the market selected, press Create alert on its panel. The form opens with Notification services at the top: tick Email, Signal, Telegram or any combination. Tokenping needs at least one channel, and every alert goes to each channel you select.

  • Email: type your address. If the first alert is missing, check your spam folder.
  • Signal: type your Signal username, with or without the @, for example alice.42. Signal shows it on your profile: open Settings, tap your profile and look next to the @ symbol. If you have never created a Signal username, create one in Signal first. Tokenping never asks for your phone number.
  • Telegram: type your Telegram username, with or without the @, for example alice_eth. Telegram shows it under Settings, then Username; if you have none, set one there first. Telegram bots can't start a conversation, so the form says "Not linked yet" and links to Tokenping's bot: open it and press Start once. While you do, the form checks again every few seconds and then says your username is linked. You can save before pressing Start, but no alert reaches Telegram until you have.

Beside each address or username is a language menu (Email language, Signal language, Telegram language) with English and Čeština. Each channel's alerts and test messages are written in the language you pick for it. A new channel starts in the language of the page you are reading, so on the English site it is English.

Because Tokenping's Signal account isn't in your contacts, Signal may show the first alert as a message request. Accept it; if you block the sender, alerts won't reach you. Choosing more than one channel is a hedge, since each depends on outside services (an email provider, a self-hosted Signal relay and Telegram's Bot API).

Tokenping stores your wallet address, the market, threshold and channels with the language of each, the email address and usernames you typed, when the alert was created and last changed, and when you last sent a test on each channel. Pressing Start in the bot stores your Telegram chat ID with your username, and your answer to the optional "How did you hear about Tokenping?" question is kept if you give one. It keeps no health factor history and no log of sent alerts. To keep the address or usernames you enter from naming you, see how to get Aave alerts without giving Tokenping your identity.

Step 5: Choose a threshold

The threshold is the health factor below which you get messages. The slider runs from 1.1 to 3.0 in steps of 0.1, and the box beside it takes any value from 1.1 to 10 with up to two decimals. The default is 1.5.

There is no universally safe number. One approach: pick the collateral price at which you would act, work out the health factor at that price, and set the alert a little above it, because checks are 5 minutes apart and a repay can be slow to confirm on a busy network. How much buffer a health factor gives you has a table of common levels.

A worked example with one volatile collateral asset and stablecoin debt: WETH's liquidation threshold on the Ethereum Core market was 83% (read on-chain at block 26194005, 14 October 2026). With 10 WETH supplied, 12,000 USDC borrowed, ETH at an illustrative $2,400 (Aave's oracle read $2,415.56 at that block) and USDC at $1.00, the health factor is 10 × 2,400 × 0.83 ÷ 12,000 = 1.66. The ETH price at any health factor is that health factor × 12,000 ÷ (10 × 0.83):

Health factorETH price at that health factorFall from $2,400
1.66 (starting point)$2,400.000%
1.5 (possible alert threshold)$2,168.679.6%
1.3 (possible alert threshold)$1,879.5221.7%
1.0 (liquidation possible below this)$1,445.7839.8%

Scroll sideways to see every column.

With a 1.5 threshold, the first message comes at the first check after the health factor drops below 1.5, here once ETH is below $2,168.67. ETH would then have to fall roughly another 33% before this position could be liquidated; with 1.3, that remaining cushion is about 23%. Both figures ignore interest. Interest and liquidation threshold cuts can also lower a health factor with no price move: see why your Aave health factor drops on its own.

Step 6: Save, and know what the alert looks like

Press Save alert. The panel shows Notification settings with an Active badge and a summary that lists each channel with its address or username and its language. The market gets a bell icon in the Markets list. The first time, an optional "How did you hear about Tokenping?" question may appear; you can press Skip. In English, Signal and Telegram get this text (illustrative values):

Your Aave Health Factor on Arbitrum is 1.42, which is below your threshold of 1.5. Consider adding collateral or repaying debt to avoid liquidation.

Sent at: Oct 14, 2026, 9:05:07 PM Coordinated Universal Time

The health factor is rounded down to two decimals, so a message never shows a value at or above the threshold it crossed, and the time is in UTC. The email carries the same message under the subject "Aave Health Factor Alert - Arbitrum", except that its last line says "Created at" instead of "Sent at". A channel set to Čeština gets the same alert in Czech.

If you chose Telegram and haven't pressed Start yet, the summary says "Not linked yet" with a link to the bot.

Step 7: Send a test message

Once the alert is saved, each channel in the summary has a Send test button. A test is a real message on that channel, in its language, with the alert as saved and your position as it is now: the market and threshold, the current health factor with its Safe, Risky or Critical label, collateral and debt, and whether that is below your threshold. It starts "Test message from Tokenping: alerts on this channel work." By email, its subject is "Tokenping test message - Arbitrum" (with your market's name).

  • You can send one test per channel every 15 minutes, counted for your wallet across all its markets. Until then, the button shows how many minutes are left. A test that fails to send doesn't count.
  • The Telegram button stays off until you have pressed Start in the bot.
  • Tests need active access, like saving an alert.

If a test doesn't arrive within a few minutes, go through why an alert might not work. To watch a real alert arrive as well, press Edit alert, set the threshold just above your current health factor and press Save alert. The next check, within 5 minutes, sends one message on each channel; then set your real threshold back the same way, and the messages stop from the following check.

How often will you be alerted?

While your health factor is below your threshold, Tokenping sends one message per selected channel on every 5-minute check. That is up to 12 messages an hour on each channel. There is no snooze, no digest and no "back to normal" message: the alerts stop once the health factor is at or above the threshold again.

The check compares your exact health factor with the threshold and fires only when it is strictly below it. With a threshold of 1.5, a health factor of 1.4996 triggers an alert, whose message shows 1.49, and 1.50 does not. If a read or a message fails, Tokenping logs it, and the next check tries again if the health factor is still below the threshold.

Checks are 5 minutes apart, not continuous, so a sharp fall can take a position from above your threshold to below 1.0 before any message goes out. Tokenping is in beta, relies on third parties to read positions and deliver messages, and has no uptime guarantee. Treat an alert as time to act, not as your only safeguard.

How do you change or stop alerts?

Tokenping alerts stop when your health factor rises back to or above your threshold, for example after you repay or add collateral, or when you delete the alert. Changing or deleting an alert needs active access and a sign-in with the wallet.

  • Change the threshold, the channels or a language: press Edit alert on the market's panel, make the change and press Save alert.
  • Stop alerts on a market: press Edit alert, then Delete alert, and confirm with Delete alert. There is no pause switch, and each market's alert is deleted separately.
  • Stop Telegram alerts: send /stop to Tokenping's bot. It forgets your chat, so no alert from any market reaches you there until you send /start again; your other channels keep getting alerts. Blocking the bot has the same effect from the next message Tokenping tries to send.
Warning:

Why isn't my alert working?

When a Tokenping alert doesn't work, check seven things: the connected wallet and market, the username format, whether Telegram is linked, native USDC on Arbitrum One, that the position has debt, that every market you borrow in has an alert, and your spam folder and Signal message requests.

The dashboard shows no positions

If the Tokenping dashboard shows no positions, the connected wallet is not the one you borrow with, or the loan is in a market Tokenping doesn't read: Aave V3 on Harmony, or a network outside the 22 it covers (the 21 V3 networks plus Arc, which has only Aave V4). A market where the wallet has no position is not missing: it is folded under Other markets.

Tokenping rejects your Signal or Telegram username

Tokenping asks you to "Enter a Signal username like alice.42" when the username isn't a nickname, a dot and at least two digits. An @ in front is fine. If you change your username in Signal, update the alert straight away: Signal lets someone else claim an old username soon after you drop it.

For Telegram, it asks for "a Telegram username like alice_eth": 4 to 32 letters, digits or underscores, starting with a letter and not ending with an underscore. Type your username, not your display name or phone number; an @ or a t.me link in front is fine, and capitals don't matter.

Telegram is not linked yet

The bot learns where to send your alerts only when you press Start (or send /start) from the account whose username is in the alert. Open the bot from the link in the form, press Start and check that the username matches the one under Telegram's Settings, then Username. If you sent /stop, blocked the bot or changed your Telegram username, type the current username into the alert and send /start again.

You have no USDC on Arbitrum One

The Tokenping payment takes Circle's native USDC on Arbitrum One (contract 0xaf88...5831), not bridged USDC.e, plus a little ETH for gas, in the wallet you are setting up. Move both there, for example by withdrawing from an exchange to Arbitrum One or by bridging. USDC.e you already hold has to be swapped for native USDC.

Your position has no debt

With no debt, Aave returns the largest possible health factor (shown as ∞), so no threshold is ever crossed and no alert is sent.

You borrow in more than one market

Each Aave V3 market and each Aave V4 Spoke has its own alert, threshold, channels and languages. One payment covers all of them, so create an alert in each market you borrow in.

Messages don't arrive

If Tokenping messages don't arrive, check your spam folder and Signal's message requests, and make sure you haven't blocked the Tokenping sender or sent /stop to the Telegram bot. Then press Send test for that channel, as in step 7: if the test arrives, the channel works, and alerts come at every check while the health factor is below your threshold.

What other ways are there to get alerts?

Some tools let you paste any wallet address and get alerts on Telegram or in their own mobile app at no charge. Browser extensions show the health factor in the toolbar, and some raise desktop notifications, while the browser is running. Automation services can repay debt for you; they need a smart wallet or a permission on your position, and some set minimum position sizes or charge a fee per action. Developers can build their own monitoring. Aave liquidation alert tools compared puts these side by side, including where Tokenping is the wrong fit.
